Romney O’Connell

b. 1962

Romney O'Connell is an artist interested in the allusive nature of light. The strange numinous quality of lightfall on water, especially clouds or sea, and the mystery of their merging are particularly evocative. Recently her work has been imbued with a rather elegiac sense that the skies, once felt to be untouchable by human error, in fact now harbor the mortal wound.

After studying at UC Santa Cruz, she completed her MFA at Columbia University. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Italy, a Pollock-Krasner Award, a Vogelstein stipend and an Artistspace NY grant. She lives and works in Berkeley California.
